Pain can either be our enemy or one of the most amazing teachers, that God has sent us. In between the shock waves that come crashing over our minds God puts into our hands the ability to choose which it will be.
Psalm 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word..
The Bible tells us that it is not about hearing, nor even understanding, but in keeping God's word, that Heaven's lessons are being completed in our lives. There is something so direct and simple in the moments of our suffering, that have the capacity to focus our hearts fully on Jesus Christ. Jesus isn't just haphazardly bringing suffering into our lives to see what we will do. No, He has gone there ahead of us and more fully that we will ever understand taken on himself the suffering and pain of us all.
Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth...
The Son of God is not asking us to suffer for him, no, not at all! He is rather working in us to see if we will enter into His suffering and there find a fellowship that will change us forever. It is in these seemingly dark moments of our lives that He comes with His finger, and writes more of His word on the pages of our hearts. What an amazing plan that God has devised. Paul tells us about it in Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
So in those nights of grief, or hours of pain, don't miss the opportunity God is giving us to draw up along side of Jesus and allow His words to become an eternal part of us. Let's look up and see a God who loves us. The things we are passing through will one day be less than a vanishing memory in the light of His glory.
