Lifting Up Our Eyes

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2

Sometimes our lives are tossed here and there by forces and circumstances entirely beyond our control. Like the disciples on Galilee's waters we are rowing as hard as we can, but we feel alone on the waters. Then He comes at a time and in a way for which we are unprepared. He is coming to us walking over the waves of our life. He is calling out, "It's me... don't be afraid!". What a joy to lay down our oars and rest! As soon as Jesus is in our boat again we will be exactly where He wants us to be...

Songs of Deliverance

Psalms 32:7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

As we pray and seek God's face He opens the door into his presence. That is the high and Holy place He promises to share with those who come with humble hearts. In our days of trouble Our Father brings us in and covers us with his wings.

There we find not just the help we need, but also songs of deliverance! As we keep praising Jesus in the middle of our problems He promises that we will be surrounded by songs about being set free. When we start to sing, His voice joins in singing to our hearts. His words will surround us just like a river as it flows around an island. Once we are surrounded by His presence then it is amazing how our thoughts and attitudes will begin to change. Start praising God today for being your hiding place and protector. He has promised you His song: Let your own life become one of His songs of deliverance right now!

A Father's Gift

This man seems to have little to give. He works all day breaking rocks in the sun for about 80 rupees ($2): But he proudly holds his son on his shoulders as if to say, "I will do all I must to take care of him."
The book of John tells us that God took his own son from his shoulders and gave his life in exchange for ours. What an astonishing exchange! Why would God care so much for us? What a wonderful Father in heaven we have!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believed in him would not perish but would have eternal life. John 3:16

Loving God

1 John 3:17 If any one of you has material possesions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in you? ...let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
If we are looking to really love God we need to begin with treasuring what is closest to His heart. God is not so very impressed by our words. He already knows what is inside our hearts. Every day God makes a new way for us to learn to love him.
One day a man was walking along a back road in Israel. There he was caught, robbed and beaten by thieves and left behind for dead. Three people were given the chance to learn to love God. First God brought a priest by the man, but when he saw him he decided not to get involved and he crossed to the other side of the road. Then came a person who was a student of God's word and he did the same. Finally God brought someone that religious people thought was their enemy. He stopped when he saw the wounded man, and began to take care of him.
Whatever our past failures, the good news is that we have a new opportunity today. God will keep working in our hearts if we allow him. Let's ask him to soften us today. We never know who we will meet just around the next corner. That person on the side of our road is Jesus in disguise!

Missions:the Song of God's Heart

This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4

What  would you give to reach just a single soul? What is the value to God of  one young boy in a world of billions? To the Owner of an apple orchard, every apple matters. He will do all he can to see that not one will be wasted. The heart song of God is missions. That is why when even one person comes to the Father, the angels are glad.

So the  question is, how much do I value a single child? Jesus is not at all ashamed to ask us to sacrifice. Jesus is not afraid to ask for our life. He has that privilege because he gave us his. He said that if we lose our life for him, we will find it.

When we find our life in Him we will begin to learn the heart song of God!

Show Me Your Ways: Psalm 25

Show me your ways, LORD,
   teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

I love the faces of children! Here are four young boys I met in India, waiting for their lessons. It makes me remember how Mary came and sat at Jesus' feet to listen to His words. There is no Teacher like Jesus. When we come and sit at His feet, He will show us, teach us and guide us. When we make this our prayer it opens the door for Jesus to begin again in our lives!!

We can not always be the Captain of the ship but...

We cannot always be the Captain of the ship.
But we can sail in the service of the one who steers the ocean!

We cannot control the storm but we can always hear God's message of hope at mid-night in our souls!

Our ship may be sinking but our God can rescue all who are sailing with us!

The Words of Jesus

God’s identity is His word. When Jesus'  words become ours it changes who we are  The flesh and blood Jesus is not here with me today. He is seated at the right side of the Father. The bread that Jesus multiplied has been eaten, the waves that he stilled have disappeared, the people he healed have died, the robe he wore is no longer with us, even the cross he died on has completely fallen to pieces. The grave Jesus left behind stands as only a silent testimony; but the words that Jesus spoke are still with me. The words of Jesus are not just ink and paper but they are the stairway to heaven, the life of the Father and the promise of eternity!
